RAR 5.30.build35
However, if you want to create RAR archives, on Android there isn't any other alternative but to use the official RAR app. Even though you are restricted to a single program, you needn't worry, as RAR for Android does its job very well and, unlike its Windows counterpart WinRAR, is completely free.
User-friendly GUI for a must-have file manager
RAR for Android sports a user-friendly interface that follows the Holo design guidelines. The app comes with a built-in file manager that makes compressing and uncompressing files a breeze. To archive files, you need to simply check the files you want to compress and tap the corresponding icon at the top.
If you have archives that you want to uncompress, you can invoke RAR directly from other apps. Alternatively, you can use the file browser to navigate to the location of the archive and unpack it from there. The file manager also supports common file operations, allowing you to move files around, delete them, rename them and create new folders.
All you need for compressing and managing files
RAR for Android can create archives in two of the most popular formats, namely ZIP and, of course, RAR. The app is quite versatile and includes a variety of options suited for different scenarios. In case the resulted archive is too big and exceeds the maximum email attachment size allowed, for example, you can split it into multiple volumes.
If you need to keep your sensitive files safe from prying eyes, you can encrypt the archives and protect them with a password. You can also choose the compression level and, in case you want the resulted archive to be as small as possible, you can even create solid RAR archives. And, if you want to make sure that your data remains intact no mater what, you can add a recovery record.
Besides compressing files, RAR for Android can also unpack a variety of archive formats, including RAR, ZIP, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, 7z, ARJ and even ISO. You can choose to uncompress the whole archive, as well as extract individual files. If you have broken ZIP or RAR archives, you needn't worry as the app also includes a repair function.
Uncompress archives fast
In case of big archives where the uncompressing process may take some time, you can choose to unpack the files in the background and follow the progress in the notification area. This also applies to compressing files.
Unfortunately, in my case this function didn't work. The compressing and uncompressing process was halted after tapping the background button and it was restarted when switching back to the app. Archiving, extraction and other commands work even if screen is turned off.
For users who need to check downloads integrity, RAR can even calculate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256 and CRC32 checksums for all the files in a folder. Results can be saved to a file or copied to the clipboard and pasted into another app. RAR also lets you decompress encrypted .7z archives.
