Send and receive emails using Microsoft Outlook.com app
Microsoft's Outlook service doesn't need any more presentation. It's one of the main email services out there, but it seems that lately the service has been lacking and is in need of a makeover. The app also seems to be struggling while competing against the top ones in the field. Still, it's well worth a try especially if you've been a Microsoft user for a long time.

Dated and boring UI

There's nothing spectacular or even remotely appealing about the app. The layout is the same as the boring standard one, with access to sections in a menu on the left of the screen and some settings to get you started.

You'll need your Microsoft or Outlook account to sign in and use this app, but the neat thing is that you can add more than one account. Users also have the option of changing the theme color and choosing from a long list of possibilities. Sound and vibrate notifications can also be enabled.

Send and view received emails and messages

It's quite easy to write emails, attach files and send them, but Outlook you can't change text formatting within the email. Such changes must be done from the menu and are applied to all emails. Still you have the option of marking emails as read or junk and moving them through sections.

The app comes with a search bar to make it easier to find the emails you're looking for. You can adjust the size and time limit of messages and set an alias for your account. Switch through accounts by accessing the menu on the left side of the screen.

Sync your contacts and device calendar

You can protect your account and emails by enabling the application lock and setting a password. Outlook also offers you the option of creating a signature to use when sending mail from your device.

The app may be set to sync the calendar with the one on the device. The contact list can also be synced, to make it easier to find the addresses of receivers. The frequency of updates can be changed, so that you save battery and data. Outlook has some issues. At times, sent emails will only appear if you relaunch the app.

  • some advanced settings

misses

  • it could use a more appealing UI
  • some stability issues
Bottom Line
Design / UI7

The interface is dated and quite rudimentary, even if it comes with the option of changing the color theme.

Function8

It works well, but has some issues mainly with the send folder.

Security8

It needs access to many areas of your phone and no email service is 100% safe so users should be careful with the data they share.

Battery7

Consumption is moderate, but you'll need ti tweak settings in order to prevent the app from becoming a battery drainer.

Price10

Completely free of charge, no ads or in-app purchases whatsoever.

Compatibility9

It should work just fine on devices running Android version 2.2 or later, meaning all those operating on Eclair and earlier won't work with this app.
