MyCalendar Free 3.03
Simplistic and ill-fitted interface
Calendar apps are simplistic in their own nature, so developers can make them popular by implementing a highly customizable and appealing interface, to help users spot upcoming events faster and adjust the interface to their pleasing. But MyCalendar fails in this regard. It's interface is ill-fitted, leaving a black space right above banner ads.
It only sports a dull white background, entries are market with green and it doesn't come with instructions. There's a FAQ section but all tips apply to iPhone users, which is strange considering that this is the Android version.
Register with an account
When you first launch the app, you realize that users may register with an email account but there's no Facebook feature. The FAQ section won't help you with instructions and after thoroughly testing the app, we realized that there's no Facebook integration in this Android version.
Meaning you can't actually import your friends' birthdays, but you can manually type them in, add photos and receive notifications with up to 14 days in advance. Users have the option of automatically sending texts to people who celebrate their birthdays, but doesn't offer any templates or suggestions of messages.
Some additional features can be unlocked if you upgrade to a premium account. For 7.4$/year, users can backup birthday data into the cloud, making it accessible from any device and remove ads that are present all throughout the app. Sadly, the app doesn't come with a home screen widget.

Bottom Line
Design / UI6
The interface has almost no customization features and seems ill-fitted in some sections. Also, all instructions are for iPhones and none for Android devices. |
Function6
Couldn't import any contacts from Facebook and we couldn't even add a photo to the user profile, the app definitely doesn't do what it promises. |
Security6
It needs many permissions from your phone and will peak into areas that aren't connected to its features, like location services and camera. |
Battery8
Consumption is minimal, so at least you don't have to worry about that. |
Price5
It's free but comes with ads and in-app purchases for unlocking additional features. The price of the premium version is 7.4$/year. A bit steep considering that Facebook integration doesn't work. |
Compatibility7
It should work just fine on devices running Android version 2.1 or later, making it accessible to many users. |
It doesn't do what it promises and peaks into many areas of your phone.
