Evernote Food 2.0.7
Intuitive and stylish UI
The layout is really fluent, all sections are neatly hidden under the 'hamburger' icon on the left of the screen. There's a search bar on top without any auto-fill suggestions and there are no instructions to help you with navigating through this app.
You can set the app to sync recipes and meal notebooks only via Wi-Fi in order to save precious mobile data. You can also set your location so the app can accurately provide you with suggestions of restaurants neat you or choose the language of recipes.
Explore recipes and save them to your cookbook
The section on exploring recipes comes with colorful and HD images of dishes, together with clear instructions on how to prepare them. The icon for saving recipes in your cookbook is located on the top right of the screen. The app actually opens the website where the recipe is featured, but doesn't make use of the browser installed on your phone.
In addition to that, there are no categories for recipes, so you can't differentiate between main course and dessert, vegetarian meals and soups. The cookbook section is missing those features as well so if you find yourself saving many recipes, you won't be able to organize them in any way.
Explore restaurants near you
Using your location services, the app finds restaurants, bakeries or coffee shops near you. The section is powered by Foursquare and provides you with the restaurant's menu, web page and a phone number. You can save the location by tapping on the icon on the top right of the screen and it will appear on a distinct map.
The my meals section lets you capture photos of meals and keep track of where you have dined. You can add tags, location and notes to remember meals you've cooked at home. Still, for a recipe app Evernote Food is missing many key features, like a unit converter and shopping list.
