Coursera 2.0.2
Clean and fresh GUI
Considering that this is an app for learning new things, the user-interface is really clean and intuitive with a menu that incorporates all the basic tools that you'd need to start improving your knowledge and set of skills.
The app comes with a distinct section for managing your past, current and upcoming courses that you may study in this app. In addition, users can complete quizzes inside the app for certain courses.
Browse through courses on various topics
Considering the plenitude of courses, all lessons are divided into categories, to make it easier to find the information that interests you the most. There are courses on anything, including engineering, medicine and law.
There's also a section with instructions on how the whole courses system works. All lessons are provided by top universities and come with course pages and videos that you can download. You can also choose the video download location.
There are also subtitles in many languages and quizzes at the end of the course. Some courses may impose homework to be done and there's an estimation of the workload for each week. You can also save courses for offline viewing.
Join as many courses as you like
Coursera is the phone version of the now popular website, but it's missing many of the features in the desktop version. There's less information about the course, its syllabus and teachers, and there are no comments from other users.
So if you have little spare time, it's best to check out the course on Coursera.org website and then join by using the app. Also, Coursera app doesn't come with a calendar for arranging multiple courses, nor does it sync with other accounts in order to import data from them. In addition, there's no option of earning a verified certificate from within the app.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8
Simplistic design, with only the basic tools for taking classes, it lacks themes and customization options. |
Function9
Video streaming and downloading is made instantly, subtitles load fairly fast and the whole app works like a charm. |
Security9
It requires online registration and the app doesn't require many permissions from your phone, thus not posing any privacy risks. |
Battery7
Although videos don't last long, keep a charger nearby as lessons may take up one hour. |
Price9
Completely free of charge, no ads or in-app purchases. However, certification for certain courses is provided only if you pay a fee. |
Compatibility8
The app requires Android version 4.0 or later, making it inaccessible to many users. |
A simplistic app with only a few features from the desktop version. Still, it's a great learning tool.
