We constantly have to remember appointments, tasks and other things to do, but instead of carrying around a heavy agenda book, why not get an app for that. ColorNote is a nifty app, but a tad simplistic. You can use it to create notes and to do lists, sync files and make them available on other devices as well. Still, the notepad is a bit limiting compared to others available on the market.

Simplistic UI with few customization options

The great thing about such apps is that there are endless possibilities in which you can customize the interface, making them fit your preferences. Unfortunately, ColorNote doesn’t provide users with many such options.

It doesn’t have any instructions or a tutorial to show users how to navigate in the app, but considering its low number of features, you wouldn’t need one. It comes with only 3 themes, differentiated by the color of the toolbar as the background stays the same in all of them.

Create notes or checklists

The layout is intuitive. There’s a menu on the left side of the screen, with a toolbar on the top and a ‘hamburger’ icon on the right. New entries are added by tapping on top, but you can’t use TTS and can only type text with the keyboard. There’s the option of making notes or checklists.

Folders can’t be created and there isn’t any choice of adding files or photos. Still, you can add reminders to your entries, simply select the day and hour when you wish the app to alert you of appointments or simply display a note.

Sync notes and use widgets

Entries can be locked with a master password, in order to protect your privacy or you can share the ones you want with friends on social networks. There’s the option of sorting notes by color or reminder time and you’ll also find a calendar in the menu on the left. Font size and style can’t be changed. Use widgets to make it easier to view and create notes, but they aren’t customizable.
