CNNMoney Business and Finance 1.5.12
Simplistic UI with only the basic features
Considering that the app was developed by giant TV station, CNN its simplicity is quite surprising. The app opens with the latest news, divided into several categories and an icon to open the markets section.
The settings menu only includes the option to turn on notifications for breaking news, together with the option of signing in with an account, but don't bother because after you've typed in your username, email and a password, the app crashes. Other than that, you can change the font size of the text, but that's about it.
Browse through articles
All stories featured in this app are divided into several categories, including tech, luxury, business and investing. An icon on the top of the screen expands these categories so you can scroll through stories and only open those that interest you the most. But the number of articles per category is extremely low, but features the most recent news.
All stories have a section with related content at the bottom of the page. There's no comments section and you can't rate articles. You can however share them on social networks. There's no search bar, so you can't filter through the content to find exactly what you need, but you will find videos in some stories.
Check out stock prices
Considering that this is an app with the latest financial news, it was almost mandatory for it to have a section with stock prices and it does. But it's quite hard to get to it, as the interface is not always responsive and the markets icon only appears when you scroll through articles.
The app features prices for futures. Currencies, commodities and bonds. Each of them comes with statistics and graphs stretching on a few months to up to a year and you can add stock to your watchlist, which would be updated every time you launch the app.
CNN Money app doesn't come with a portfolio section as most apps do, but you'll have to download it separately. In addition, there are annoying ads to all sorts of shows on CNN, they're displayed in all articles and even in the markets section.

Bottom Line
Design / UI7
With a simplistic design and a non-responsive interface at times, the app definitely fails to impress. |
Function7
It comes with only a few basic settings, the sign in section makes the app crash and it lacks a portfolio section, found in most similar apps. |
Security7
It peaks into quite a lot of areas on your phone so think twice before installing this app. |
Battery7
Normal consumption of battery for a news reader app. |
Price9
No ads or in-app purchases, but plenty of banners with shows on CNN. |
Compatibility8
It should work on devices running Android version 2.3 or later. |
Simplistic app that doesn't do justice to its content.
