CBC News 3.1.0
One of such application is CBC News. It's the official application by the popular news network and it's filled with all sort of features and tools for reading articles.
Sleek but simplistic interface with few features
The app doesn't come with a tutorial or any kind of instructions, which means that users must discover features inside the app on their own. It doesn't need online registration, users can share articles on social networks without having to register with Facebook or their Google account.
A side menu gives you access to all sort of sections inside the app, but it doesn't come with options for customizing the interface. CBC News app only comes with the option of managing notifications and picking regions from where news should be loaded.
Filter articles by category
The side menu gives you access to all sort of sections inside the app. You can check out the section with the breaking news, top stories or the weather forecast. You can also read stories on world events, politics, business and health.
Other sections include tech & science, arts & entertainment or sports. Users can check out videos featured inside the app or galleries with photos. You can also get all the most important stories in the editor's picks section or in the top stories section.
Read articles
The app opens articles easily and it even provides users with suggestions at the bottom of it. You can share them easily on social networks. However, the app isn't very user-friendly, you can't swipe through articles or change the size or type of fonts.
In addition, the app only comes with one theme and it doesn't have night mode, a feature that many news readers have. Also, you can't manage alerts and have the app only provide you with notifications of breaking news. You can save articles for offline reading.
Moreover, the app doesn't support Chromecast. It seems to have some functionality issues, it sometimes crashes when opening notifications and videos are filled with ads. All in all, the app is filled with all sort of interesting articles but it lacks many basic features that almost any news reader has.
