Video Diary 2015.508.2141.1616
Among the utilities Windows Phone users can try for recording and distributing video content there is one called Video Diary that offers a simple approach for both tasks.
Smooth looking GUI, meant for ease of use
With a pretty well designed and quite practical interface, this application makes it easy for anyone to access all the functions and start recording videos on the spot.
The preview area when activating the capture mode is very generous and a handful of commands for controlling the operation are placed inside, but their arrangement will not modify to screen orientation changes,m namely when device is held in landscape mode.
A real nuisance comes from the animated advertisement banners, which will follow you around almost in every corner of the application and in order to have them removed a purchase is required.
Record and share video clips
The clips are saved automatically and stored in Video Diary's own vault, so they are not mixed with other recordings you might have done beforehand and which are kept on your phone. Adding the movies to your OneDrive storage is a simple task, so in a couple of minutes you can create fresh albums with your new videos.
A neat feature of this utility is the ability to set reminders and alarms that will notify you it's time to record a certain event. Setting up this function is pretty straightforward as it only involves choosing the alert time and date.
Clip protection and extra features
For every captured clip you can assign an emotion, so a corresponding smiley and the title of that state will appear below the the video. There is another handy function, more precisely the calendar view that makes it possible for you to view and access the recordings ordered by day.
In order to prevent unauthorized access to your videos, the utility enables you to set up a PIN code and each time you open a clip you can lock it with one tap. Also, should you care to view some usage charts, grouped by emotion or day of the week, there is a dedicated section of Video Diary you can access for that purpose.
Unfortunately, you have to note that some features, like the export, sharing and the editing capabilities remain locked until you decide to make a payment to have them available.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8
The looks are quite well made, but the ads ruin a good deal of the experience. |
Function8
Very easy to use and ready to record videos with one tap, the app does its job well, but crashes often and has other shortcomings. |
Security6
Video Diary peeks into sensitive areas of the system, as it requires access to the phone dialer, appointments, owner and phone identities. |
Battery6
The power consumption is pretty high when recording and uploading the videos, so the application is quite battery intensive for most of the time. |
Price8
A good deal of the features are free, but some of the most important ones and the ad removal have to be purchased. |
Compatibility9
Most owners of Windows Phone 8 and above devices will be able to install and run this app onto their handsets, as it doesn't have any special requirements. |
