System Tiles 2.2.4.0

Quickly add shortcuts on the Start screen to easily reach the most often used system tools and apps
There are many users looking for a means of tweaking the looks and the functionality of their handsets and the Start screen is a good place to start the customizations.

System Tiles is an application that will help you on that road, by providing a simple method of keeping installed apps and system features close at hand.

Decent looks, focused on practical use

Dressed in black and blue, this utility has a clean GUI with a quite well organized layout that offers quick access to all the features. The tiles that are displayed inside the interface look quite nice for the most part, but there are a few for which the writing is overlapping the graphics, which is not good at all.

When pinned to the start screen, the tiles look fine, especially those you choose to customize manually. From time to time you will receive some reminders that ask you to review the application, but, with one tap, you can deactivate and dismiss them for good.

Pin individual tiles to the Start screen and add folders with multiple shortcuts inside

Compared to similar tools, System Tiles has a rather short list of applications that are commonly installed by Windows Phone users. Instead, it is much better equipped to provide quick access to system features and areas, covering a wide range of tools. Before adding a fresh tile, this utility enables you to customize the style by assigning a different color to personalize each item.

The ability to create folders that contain shortcuts to the apps and functions is a more than welcomed addition, as it can help save a lot of space, while also allowing you to add any number of tiles without worrying to clog the Start screen.

Hits & Misses

hits

  • allows users to customize the tile color before pinning the shortcuts
  • can add several tiles inside a folder that is sent onto the Start screen

misses

  • will create only a single shortcut folder without a purchase
  • a number of tiles have some imperfections inside the app's main screen
Bottom Line
Design / UI8

The appearance of the application is decently designed, without bells and whistles and with some glitches here and there. The way in which the items are organized works well in its advantage, making the shortcuts quite easy to find.

Function7

System Tiles comes with a very limited number of applications that can be pinned to the Start screen, but it makes amends by packing a good deal of system shortcuts. An advantage is the possibility to personalize the tiles, but it loses points for allowing only a single folder to be added without a purchase.

Security10

The app scores top points for its discreet nature and behavior, which means the personal data stored onto the phone remains private at all times.

Battery9

Very friendly to the system resources, this utility needs a small amount of energy to keep it running, so the battery usage is kept low all through its runtime.

Price9

Overall an app well worth a try, System Tiles provides a good deal of features for free, but it loses a bit because it asks for money in order to allow more than one shortcut folder to be pinned to the Start screen.

Compatibility8

The application will function correctly on any device running Windows Phone 8 or above, with a screen resolution of at least 480x800 pixels.
