For those who want to add a personal touch to the Start screen and create some beautiful looking wallpapers, Start Designer is an app that is well worth trying.
Easy to use and nicely done front-end
The application comes with a pretty neat appearance, with carefully designed graphics and a friendly layout. All the functions and commands are at hand, neatly packed inside the main menu hosted in the lower side of the screen.
The workspace and preview area is pretty generous, allowing you to view the modifications come into effect immediately. Nonetheless, there is a noticeable annoyance that is represented by the advertisements covering the screen every once in a while.
Choose the customization type and edit the wallpapers
Start Designer enables you to carry out quite a few different personalization tasks and from the main screen you can pick the one you want to try out.
One of the more basic customizations relies on gradient colors you can mix together in countless combinations. Thus, you can select up to 3 different colors and beside being able to choose the exact hue you want for each of them, it is also possible to opt for a different gradient orientation, picking from the 4 available types.
For the "Photo Magic" wallpaper type you can select a photo stored locally and modify the opacity, as well as accent color. In a pretty similar fashion you can treat the "Color Blur" background style that also uses an opacity control and can mic up to 3 colors.
There are two more modes, one for generating polygon shape based wallpapers and the other for creating patterns with custom pics and colors.
Quick fine-tuning and background image saving
For some of the aforementioned Start screen customizations there are some advanced controls that will enable you to adjust the opacity level, pick the pattern shape, density or simply randomize the effects and colors.
In order to have the freshly made wallpapers available onto your phone, all you have to do is tap the "Save" button from the main menu and the images will be sent automatically to the "Saved Pictures" folder.
