Settings Express 1.3.1.0
Windows Phone users in particular may have a difficult time when it comes to personalizing their handsets as the operating system has lots of limitations in this respect. Nonetheless, there are some tools that can help to a certain extent and Settings Express is one of them.
Simple and straightforward GUI
This application is all about practicality and thus offers a clean layout, well organized and with every feature and command conveniently placed inside the main screen and in the main menu hosted in the lower side of the screen.
The design is fairly common and the focus is on functionality, so as to make the information easier to read and the tiles quickly accessible from their corresponding areas.
All the shortcuts are stacked in a single column, with easy to read text labels on them and representative icons next to each of them.
A notable drawback for Settings Express is the presence of some advertisement banners that are shown at the bottom of the main screen, where they change from time to time.
View active functions and control music playback
There are only a few settings you can access from inside this app or using the shortcuts it can generate, but they are linked to some of the most commonly visited areas.
Settings Express does very well what it is supposed to, namely allows you to get to the desired sections of the system in a jiffy. With shortcuts to the cellular, WiFi, bluetooth, Airplane mode, NFC or location, this tool covers some of the more often visited settings.
A more special function is the dedicated control for pausing, resuming or stopping the music and this can prove really helpful when you want to quickly turn off the playback.
Nonetheless, when tapping the shortcut tile from the Start screen, you will be taken inside the app first, which may be less convenient for you.
One tap to pin the shortcuts
If for the music playback you have to press once to pause the audio and hold the button for a couple of seconds to completely stop it, the other operations are more easy to carry out.
Thus, you can easily tell which phone function is active as it appears colored in blue, whereas the inactive ones are grayed out, while in order to add a shortcut to the Start screen you have to tap once on the dedicated button placed next to each item, on the right side.

Bottom Line
Design / UI7
This app has a decent look and is very easy to use, but the adverts take away some of the good feel of the interface. |
Function6
There are only a few system shortcuts inside, so despite the usefulness of many of them, the utility needs more features. |
Security10
The application doesn't come close any sensitive area of the system that is not related to its functionality, so it is safe to have installed. |
Battery6
While Settings Express is running, the power consumption is well above relatively moderate, with the battery usage going into the high area. |
Price9
Overall the app is worth a try, but it loses a bit because it displays some advertisements inside the main screen. |
Compatibility9
The target platforms for this utility are Windows Phone 8 and above, without other special requirements. |
