RectaLock 1.0.3.0
Windows Phone owners have at their disposal several apps that can modify the lock screen and which integrate with the system in order to do so, but there are some that run independently and offer a slightly different manner of handling this task and RectaLock is among these tools.
Simple and efficient interface
The looks of this utility are pretty well designed, with some cool backgrounds and neat graphics that are preserved all through the GUI and particularly onto the lock screen. Moving inside the app and going through its menus is fluent and glitch-free, but there is a constant annoyance that accompanies you at every step.
There are some advertisement banners that appear inside the home screen and they obstruct some buttons, making it difficult to use those functions. Also, when you are about to unlock the device, the adverts are once again present, this time right in the middle of the screen and only by rating the app will you be able to eliminate them from this area.
Straightforward setup with useful assistance at hand
RectaLock enables you to start learning how to operate it even from the first run, when it provides some handy instructions to get you going with the basic configuration and usage steps. In case you want to review those advices, you can start the tutorial at any moment from the main menu.
If you want to add a personal touch to the app, you can easily pick the lock screen wallpaper and also choose the start screen image that will be shown for a few instants. For both pictures you can use the photos stored onto the local storage.
Quick launch procedure and PIN code protection
In order to have the app lock the screen you can either tap the "Launch" button from its home screen or pin a tile to the Start screen and have it at hand from there.
There is yet another way of triggering the main functionality of RectaLock and this is done via the notification center, by pressing the toast notification shown in there.
If you want to secure the access to the app, there is a password protection feature that allows you to choose a 4-digit code that you will have to enter each time you unlock the phone.
Nonetheless, do not rely on this feature and feel that your device is protected in any way because the application can be closed at any given moment by simply tapping the "Back" or "Start" buttons of the handset. Also, the system lock screen can be activated as well if you press the physical power button.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8
The app has a relatively simple yet well designed layout, but the adverts that appear at every step are too annoying and get in the way a lot. |
Function6
This utility offers a neat alternative to the default lock screen action, but there are many functional limitations, many caused by the OS restrictions. |
Security5
The application is way too curious as it looks into a lot of system areas that are in no way related to its functionality. |
Battery6
The high power consumption necessary to keep RectaLock up and running means that the battery usage remains at high levels most of the time. |
Price9
All the features of this app are provided completely free of cost, but not of nuisances as users have to put up with hordes of ads. |
Compatibility8
The utility is tailored for the more recent handsets out there and it can be run on any device that is powered by Windows Phone 8.1 at least. |
