Windows Phone owners can give a personal touch to the Start screen of their mobiles with a bit of help from Photo Tile, a cool app that allows anyone to turn digital images into tiles.
Simple and easy to use front-end
The application comes with a rather dull look, lacking fancy backgrounds or effects, but featuring some decent graphics. There is one customization you can bring to the visual aspect and it consists of the selection of a different accent color from the "Options" area.
More appealing is the app's live tile that can be pinned to the Start screen to have it show in random order the images selected to be used by Photo Tile.
A constant nuisance is the presence of the animated ad banners that reside in the lower part of the screen and which follow you in every section you visit.
Pick the pics for the tiles and have them pinned automatically
In order to have the images stored onto your mobile phone shown onto the Start screen you have to do a simple thing: add them one by one inside the "Photos" module of he application.
As soon as you decide on an image to assign to the selected slot, it will be sent immediately onto the Start screen, where it appear as a medium-sized tile.
All the dimensions are supported, but you should note that the wide format resizes the picture and it will show a different portion of the image compared to the other dimensions (small and medium).
Create live tiles that display a photo slideshow
With Photo Tile you also have the possibility to add another type of enhancement, more precisely some so-called live tiles. These particular items work much like the image slideshows you might be familiar with and you can have up to 9 pictures scroll inside the tile.
The number of live tiles that you can create doesn't seem to be limited in any way by the app, so you can tap the "+" sign and add as many as you wish. Swiping to the end of the line you will find the "Delete" button that eliminates that tile from the app and consequently from the Start screen.
