Media Explorer 2.0.0.0
Windows Phone owners are well aware of the shortcomings that their mobile OS has in this respect, as file management is a bit underdeveloped, at least for the more advanced users, but certainly not only for them.
To alleviate this potential issue, some dedicated tools have been developed and Media Explorer is one of the applications that is ready to take on a rather complex, yet very necessary task.
Neatly structured layout, with a decent appearance
The app comes with a clean look, featuring some relatively common graphics, but the focus here is clearly on function rather than on form, so the practical aspect prevails.
The content is kept neatly structured and with all the folders at hand, even though there is no visible distinction between the directories on the local storage and those from the SD card, so you might have several folders bearing the same identical name.
Browsing the various menus and the files listed inside the storage containers you open is fairly fluent, with some minor delays when accessing directories that have in store numerous items.
Explore and manage files on the go
This utility is suitable not only for checking out the pictures, videos, music tracks or documents you keep inside your Windows Phone and online storage, but also for transferring them. The left side pane that can be revealed with a swipe offers quick access to the phone, SD card and online storage folders in a tree view.
The great thing about Media Explorer is that you can have it linked with OneDrive, Google Drive and Dropbox to view and move content with ease. Unfortunately, in order to use the last two mentioned services you will have to pay to unlock this functionality.
The app makes it possible for you to directly open photos, videos and songs, while when selecting individual files you will be able to rename them. The search functionality is well implemented and you can find the items you are looking for in no time.
Easily compress and share your files
Media Explorer has another ace up its sleeve and it is related to the file archiving procedure that can help you save some space by packing several items together. Generating Zip archives is extremely easy, as all you have to do is select the desired files, choose "Compress" from the main menu and the app will take care of the rest.
In case you come across a certain item or group of files you would like to send over to your friends, this app can make that happen as it supports sharing via SMS, email, social networks and shared cloud storage.
