Garmin StreetPilot 8.0.3.0
Thus, Windows Phone users have at their disposal a specialized application, Garmin StreetPilot, which aims to provide everything they would need to steer around the streets of any city included on the maps the utility comes equipped with.
Practical interface, featuring complex options
The looks of this app are fairly decent, with a clear focus on functionality, but with some pretty well designed graphics as well. The organization of the content is less intuitive than with other similar solutions, while the navigation around the maps doesn't have the same smooth feel.
Even if it is concentrated on U.S. and Canada maps, Garmin StreetPilot still takes quite a bit of time to load the data when zooming in on a certain area or readjusting the position.
Find the places you want to go to and get directions on the fly
The built-in search works quite fast and provides accurate results based on your input. The route calculation is also done quickly so you will have the directions at your disposal in a couple of moments.
The app supports driving and walking mode, so you can profit from it even if you are going by foot to a certain location. The route is highlighted clearly on the map and you can switch to the text directions instead of using them along with the map.
Quick location of points of interest nearby and other extras at a glance
Garmin StreetPilot offers a lot of features besides the simple navigation facilities, but most of them are not available in the trial version. Nonetheless, you can still get, for example, weather data for the selected places or use foursquare to discover locations near your current position or for another point on the map.
Adding the places you like most to a list of favorites is also supported, while the coveted trip planing and flight status checker modules will be unlocked only after a purchase is made.

Bottom Line
Design / UI7
The app has a common appearance, with decent graphics, but getting around the app and navigating the maps is difficult at times, so it loses a few points from the visual perspective. |
Function7
There are lots of features packed inside this application, but, unfortunately, not all are available and those that are seem a bit incomplete and Garmin StreetPilot can only be used for basic navigation. |
Security8
For some reason, the utility needs permission to look into the phone dialer and phone identity system areas, as well as into the multimedia libraries. |
Battery4
When used for navigation in real-time, the app will eat up the battery resources at a very high rate, as the power consumption readings suggest. |
Price4
The trial version is severely limited and it is very difficult for someone to really evaluate it with all the features and settings locked, so the attached price tag seems a bit too much to ask from users, especially when comparing the utility with other similar solutions. |
Compatibility8
Garmin StreetPilot is made to work on most Windows Phone devices out there, starting with version 7.5, but the performance of its modules will vary from one OS to the other. |
