WinGPS Info 2.5.0.0
One of the Windows Phone tools that aim to provide an accurate localization including road and satellite map views goes by the name of WinGPS Info.
Uncomplicated look, designed for practicality
This utility has a very simple appearance, lacking any elements of graphical design that could be seen as visually appealing. The functions and commands are easy to reach, as some are placed intuitively inside the main screen and most of them reside in the main menu hosted in the lower part of the app.
All the data shown inside WinGPS Info can be easily read and there are no ads in sight, which makes browsing the various sections of the application smoother and more convenient.
Still, you will receive some reminders after using the app once or twice, the prompts asking you to rate and review the utility. Fortunately, you can disable them for good with just a couple of taps.
Enable location services and get your position on the spot
The moment you fire up WinGPS Info and activate the location services, as you will be prompted to do so, the application will start to scan for the coordinates of your current location. The best way to get the most precise data from this app is using it outside, as the detection indoors is significantly less accurate.
The information brought by this tool includes the latitude and longitude coordinates, as well as the altitude and heading if you are on the move. Also, in case you are on the go you can check out your current speed, expressed in both kilometers and miles per hour.
The Metric and U.S. measurements are also used for the vertical and horizontal accuracy, so you can view them in meters and feet as well.
View the map location and share it immediately
The special feature of this application is the support for Bing Maps, which makes it possible for you to view the road map or the satellite imagery provided by the online service, with your current position highlighted with a blue marker.
The location data you can send out is, however, limited because you can share only the Bing maps link inside an email or SMS message and even via the social networks you subscribed to.

Bottom Line
Design / UI6
The appearance of this application is less appealing and only the responsive map section and good organization of the content saves it some points. |
Function7
This utility offers a fast an accurate detection, with two map modes, but needs more options, including for sharing location data, not only the Bing Maps link. |
Security8
The app needs to access the owner identity for some reason and it sends out anonymous data usage stats unless you deactivate this options from the "Settings" area. |
Battery6
The noticeable energy consumption makes the battery discharge faster when WinGPS Info runs for longer. |
Price10
There are no restrictions when using this app and the rating prompts can be deactivated, so it scores top marks here. |
Compatibility10
Tailored for use on almost every Windows Phone out there, the utility runs well on any handset that has version 7.5 or higher of the OS. |
