Control Center 4.0.0.0

Take a shortcut to the most often used system settings with a nifty app for your phone
Most tasks on Windows Phone devices need a couple of taps to be carried out, but there are some areas of the system for which users have to go a bit deeper to find and use them.

Those who prefer to keep their Start screen clean of numerous shortcuts for reaching these sections can take for a spin a dedicated application suggestively called Control Center, which facilitates finding and using a good deal of system functions.

Plain looks for a functional front-end

As soon as you open this utility you will notice that it was made for practical purposes and having some visual appeal was not in the initial plans. The graphics are common, with some of the function switches a bit rough around the edges. All the functions are in plain sight, so you should have no trouble whatsoever when trying to find and use them.

After the first use you will start receiving some reminders that prompt you to give rating and review Control Center, while in the lower side of the screen you will see a banner that offers to provide another application for you to try. The adverts can be removed by purchasing the Pro version of the utility.

Application shortcuts and function switches at a glance

This application has in store several tiles that will take you to some of the apps installed by default onto your Windows Phone. Thus, you have the sens SMS or email messages, visit the account management area, access the lock screen or add new appointments and contacts.

In the upper part of the GUI are a set of switches that correspond to some system settings you might be using on a regular basis. More precisely, one tap away are the Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular and SIM configurations, as well as the location services, airplane mode lock screen and a most useful stop button for the currently playing media files.

The items hosted in the later mentioned area of Control Center can be sent to the Start screen in a simple manner. So, if you care to have any of those at your fingertips, you just have to tap and hold onto any of the switches and select "pin to start".

Hits & Misses

hits

  • allows users to pin the switches to the Start screen
  • one tap to open any of the listed system apps or settings

misses

  • poorly designed GUI
  • needs more items in the shortcuts list
  • the app tiles cannot be pinned to the Start menu
  • battery intensive
Bottom Line
Design / UI4

Unattractive and not too carefully designed, the graphics inside this application coupled with the prompts and ads make it lose a lot from the visual perspective.

Function6

The basic features provided by Control Center can be pretty useful, but it needs to make the app shortcuts ready for pinning to the Start screen and it could use a bit more of them.

Security8

The app needs to access several sensitive system areas and not for all of them it has a good reason of doing so.

Battery6

Despite the relative simplicity it displays, the utility will drain a significant amount of power, so the battery usage stays at high levels at all times.

Price9

Control Center offers its features free of cost, but not of nuisances, so users who want to get rid of the banners will have to make a purchase.

Compatibility9

Anyone who wants to try out this application can do so on a Windows Phone 8 or above handset, any special requirements.
