Concept for Windows 10 Beta 0.9.8.0

Experiment with an original idea that offers you a glimpse into the potential of the upcoming OS
With every fresh release of the operating system new features, improved or completely changed looks and innovative functionality can be expected and there are a lot of users eager to be among the first who get their hands on those.

For Windows Phone users there is a now a special application that can give them a taste of the next much awaited release of the OS and it has a suggestive name: Concept for Windows 10.

For the time being the utility is in the Beta stages of its development, so do not expect everything to go smoothly as some bugs will surely come your way since this is still work in progress.

Cool looking and customizable interface

The appearance of this application is pretty nicely made and it would be very nice if some of the design concepts it brings would make it in the final version. Some annoying adverts will appear right in the middle of the lock screen, when the concept is launched, but you can close them with one tap.

The fully transparent and animated tiles can also be personalized by selection one of the available themes which include black or white background color or they can be transparent with white borders.

Also, the background images that are used for the lock screen, as well as the wallpaper displayed onto the Start screen and also shown when the Apps list is accessed can be hand-picked from the digital pictures stored onto your mobile device.

Small-scale functionality, mainly for showcasing the OS features

Concept for Windows 10 has quite a few shortcuts in the Start screen and most of them work, but for the majority of them you will have to have the respective applications installed in order for the shortcuts to be of any use. The same is true for the items included in the Apps list, where you will find a lot of additions that include the most commonly used Windows Phone applications.

The "Settings" area also offers a good deal of information about what to expect from Windows 10 in terms of system options, but the system shortcuts are not yet fully functional. Also, there are a couple of features that are locked and will require a purchase.

The virtual buttons at the bottom of the screen can be used for returning to the previous menu or showing the lock screen and the search feature will bring up Cortana when tapped. Unfortunately, after a few uses, the app might simply fail to launch the concept and you will have to reinstall it to fix this.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8

The looks of this app are quite inspired, but there is the issue of the ad banners, while some of the transitions and effects are less smooth than expected.

Function7

The beta quality of the product is evident from end to end, as it lacks some advanced features, while presenting a few glitches.

Security7

Even if some of the settings and tiles inside Concept for Windows 10 are not working, the app still needs to access a lot of system areas for no reason.

Battery3

The power consumption is massive while this tool is functioning, so the battery will deplete after only a couple of hours of use.

Price8

For any user who wants to peek into the future of the OS, this application is a very good starting point, but it still has a some rough edges.

Compatibility7

The range of handsets this utility is targeting is rather limited as it can only be installed and run on Windows Phone 8.1 devices.
