For those who want a bit more control and are willing to try one the dedicated utilities that serve as a repository for various shortcuts and extra tools that are not yet integrated by default with the operating system, Common Settings is one of the possible choices.
Straightforward and unadorned look
This application comes with a relatively simple layout, easy to use and customizable insofar as the order of the items included in the two man lists is concerned. You can also add a background photo as the app's wallpaper.
You should note that when they are pinned to the Start screen, the shortcuts provided by Common Settings support only two tile sizes, namely small and medium.
Navigating among the few areas of the utility is fluent and without any issues, the main source of discontent you will encounter being the advertisement banners that appear in the lower side of the screen.
Pin and manage shortcuts in no time
Common Settings enables you to easily add the system shortcuts and app tiles to the Start screen by simply pressing for a couple of seconds any of the items listed inside the two dedicated sections.
A neat feature offered by this utility is the possibility to move around any items from the lists and it is also possible to transfer shortcuts from the "Hide" area into the "Common" one and vice versa.
In case you wish to send any of those entries directly to the top spot or to the bottom of the list, this can be easily done by selecting the corresponding function from the menu that appears when pressing an item for a couple of seconds.
Extra utilities at your fingertips
The application packs some neat options inside and there are several functions you will surely find quite handy as soon as you try them out. Thus, you can explore the phone storage info and some system details or you can try out the built-in compass.
This latter mentioned feature requires an otherwise standard calibration procedure, but which seems to have a hard time completing, compared to many similar tools.
There is a quick phone restart function and another for quickly locking the device, but due to the OS restrictions these are not usable on Windows Phone 8.1 powered devices.
