Bottle Lock 1.0.0.0
Those who want to tinker with the way in which their Windows Phone handset is locked can try out a neat utility that offers a different way of carrying out this simple task and has a suggestive name: Bottle Lock.
Pleasant appearance for a simple GUI
Considering the neat background image that greets you once you open the app for the first time and viewing the well designed graphics that are consistent throughout the utility it's safe to say that the visual aspect is very good overall.
The navigation inside Bottle Lock has a fluent feel to it, but there is an ever-present source of discontent represented by the ad banners.
These adverts that appear inside the home screen and also onto the lock screen can be really pushy and obstruct some functions, forcing you to try and close them, but only by rating and reviewing the app will they disappear.
Effortless lock activation and customization
The first step for adding a personal touch to the app is picking the wallpaper image for the lock screen, which can be easily selected from the photo library onto your mobile phone.
The other picture you will need to choose is the start screen image and this one will only appear for a brief second after the unlocking the device.
In order to have the app lock the screen you can either tap the "Launch" button from its home screen or pin a tile to the Start screen and have it at hand from there.
There is yet another way of triggering the main functionality of Bottle Lock and this is done via the notification center, by pressing the toast notification shown in there.
Phone info and secure access
What seems to be a neat feature of this application is the possibility to create an access PIN code which will be requested when unlocking the phone. Unfortunately, the keypad you have to use and input the access code is not active, so you cannot get in like this, but there are ways.
Thus, because the utility does not fully integrate with the system and functions just like any other installed app, with one tap on the "Start" or "Back" buttons you will exit Bottle Lock, even if its so-called password protection is active.
The application manages to provide a set of handy details at a glance while the lock screen in displayed, so you can check out the battery level, the status of the WiFi and cellular networks, besides the usual date and time info.

Bottom Line
Design / UI9
The otherwise appealing aspect of this application is a bit overshadowed by the irritating ad banners that are continuously changing. |
Function3
The simple customization of Bottle Lock is its only asset at this time because it has lots of drawbacks and glitches. |
Security5
There are many sensitive areas for which the app requires access even if they are not related to its functionality. |
Battery4
The high power consumption necessary to keep the utility up and running means that the battery usage remains at high levels. |
Price9
All the features are free to enjoy without any costs, but there are some really pushy advertisements that hinder its usage. |
Compatibility8
Only those who own a Windows Phone 8.1 device can try out Bottle Lock onto their handsets, as it doesn't have other special requirements. |
