Webroot SecureWeb Browser 1.12

Webroot SecureWeb Browser is a tool that wants to make browsing the Internet safe for you
Browsing the Internet is not always as safe as it could be. There are countless traps peppering the Internet and not all websites are secure. Some could lead to you losing important data without even realizing it.

SecureWeb is an app that wants to take over the role of a web browser for your iPhone, pointing out the sites that are safe for you to visit and those that haven’t passed the test or haven’t been tested yet.

Quick intro

After installing the app, there’s a few instructions on how to use it, pointing out that it comes with tab support and that you can switch between these by dragging your finger from the top of the screen over the tab area to expand it and pick the page.

The browser has elements that you’ll notice from other browsers, including the address bar and a side area where you can search the Internet for various terms and phrases. The default search engine is Google, although you can change it to Yahoo, Bing, or Ask.com from the Settings area.

This can be done by tapping the Share icon in any page and picking the “Show Settings.” From the same area you can decide whether you want the app to tag your search results and to block URLs. You may also adjust the browser identification, which is by default set to Safari Mobile. You can, however pick regular Safari, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, Opera and even Blackberry Browser.

Other things you can do from the Share menu is to add the page to the bookmark list, mail the link of this page, or clear the whitelisted sites.

Oldie, but not goldie

From a design standpoint, the app looks… ancient. Truth be told, it hasn’t been updated since 2013, which explains the issues to an extent, but not entirely. Compared to other browsers, this one is difficult to handle and it looks like something that hasn’t been updated in a lot longer than a little over a year. Important areas of the app, such as the Settings area, are hard to reach and the method is not intuitive at all.

While the app surely has its advantages since it flags the sites that are safe to use by planting a “safe” label next to the search result or warning you when you try to access it by typing in the URL yourself, it’s not the type of app you actually want to use by default.

GOOD

I wouldn’t recommend you use this app since there are other similar products out there offering the same, or more, protection
