The Design Museum Collection for iPhone 1.20
Something Apple would make
Crafted with the same care and attention as all the items it presents, The Design Museum Collection for iPhone arguably has the best design we’ve seen in an iPhone app. The interface simply glides under your fingers, and it’s incredibly easy to understand and use. I’s amazing what you can do with the right design.
A flawless design leads to an impeccable functional experience. Browsing through the videos, photos and text descriptions of each item in part is just pure pleasure. However, the experience can be a little choppy on old-generation devices. In some instances, it can crash quite a lot, which is a shame.
Select pieces, tons of documentation
The Design Museum Collection App for iPhone presents a total of 59 objects from London’s Design Museum, one more remarkable than the other. You simply swipe through them horizontally, and scroll vertically for a nice lecture, videos, comments, specs, and sharing options.
Images can be tapped on and zoomed to an incredibly-high level. Each item is photographed from several different angles.
Search options include time, material, color, location, manufacturer and designer, while some of the most noteworthy pieces in the app include the Anglepoise lamp, the Dyson vacuum, the Thonet chair, Apple’s iMac and Pro Mouse, the British telephone box, and many others.
Video commentary is available courtesy of Deyan Sudjic, Design Museum Director, and Helen Charman, Design Museum Head of Learning. You can read an observation on each item from Stephen Bayley, Design Museum Founding Director. There’s also a video collection of films released on the 25th of each month in celebration of the 25th birthday of the Design Museum.
