Star Chart 3.95

Immerse yourself into space with the help of Star Chart
Watching the sky in wonder is something that humanity has done for as long as it’s been around. While we may have a better understanding of what’s out there now, we’re still nowhere near to knowing everything there is to know about the Universe.

We can, however, continue gazing into the night’s sky, wondering what things scientists will reveal next to blow our minds.

Dive into the sky

Star Chart is an app that will help any astronomy enthusiast find out more about the observable universe, be it the nearby planets, the stars we see, the constellations or even the nebulas in the sky, although you’ll obviously need a proper telescope to get to see the latter.

Either way, Star Chart provides more than just information about stars, planets and everything astronomical; it provides a strong augmented reality tool that lets you fly through the sky. By telling the app your location, it will show you the slice of sky you can actually see from your city. In this way, you can go out, look at the sky and compare the sight, trying to spot as many stars and constellations as possible.

More data can be viewed by picking any of the planets, stars or constellations. You’ll get a description, information about the planetary system, the body’s characteristics (diameter, average temperature, axial tilt, rotational period and surface gravity), as well as information about the distance from Earth and Sun.

If you want to check it out, you can do so, and the app will zoom in on the sky body you want to check out and you’ll get to zoom in and out by simply pinching the screen or rotate it to get a better view.

Cool images

When it comes to constellations, you can even see a milky representation of the animal or object it’s supposed to represent.

The tool’s settings area allows you to turn on and off the night mode and the augmented reality mode. You may even fiddle with the display settings, choosing what elements to display, such as the equatorial grid, the latin names for constellations, or labels for planets and stars. It’s also possible to decide between light years and parsecs for interstellar distances and for the metric or imperial systems for the interplanetary distances.

All in all, this is a pretty great app and it’s certainly visually appealing and informative at the same time.
