ShoutMe 1.8

ShoutMe wants to be your go-to messaging tool, promising secure communications
Back in the day, meaning just a few years back before smartphones took over the world, texting was the way to go for everyone; it was something we all did since it was cheaper than actually calling someone and oftentimes faster since you didn’t have to wait for the other person to pick up and insist on useless chitchat when you were actually in a hurry.

Nowadays, things have changed, and with nearly everyone having access to the Internet directly from their phones, texting is rapidly dying out and leaving room to messaging apps. While some have gained international fame quite rapidly, there are plenty of alternatives out there.

Meet ShoutMe

ShoutMe is one of these alternatives that provides users with Internet-based messaging. The service is cross-platform, which means you’ll be able to chat with buddies that have Android or Windows Phones too.

The app is pretty simple to use and it doesn’t exactly require a lot of training to figure it out. You’ll have to pick your country of origin as you launch the app and then to input your phone number. To make sure that it’s truly you that is trying to set up the account, the app will send a unique code by SMS and you’ll have to fill in the four digits.

Once you get the green light, you can set up your account by picking an account name. You can allow the app to get your location and find people nearby who are using the app, enabling you to communicate with them. It’s also possible to give the app access to your contact list so it can detect which ones of your friends have an account so you can chat with them.

The app itself isn’t too complicated. You can scan the surrounding areas, check your contacts and view the active chats you have. Chatting with friends is extremely easy and tapping on the arrow sign near the text line gives you access to more features.

You can, for instance, send friends photos and video which you just took or some from your Camera Roll. It’s also possible to send a 2-minute audio note, share your location or a contact you have on your phone or set up a meeting.

This basically means that you can meet with your friend by tracking his or her location on the screen of your phone as you both allow the app to track you via GPS.

Few settings

The Settings area enables users to pick a status, fiddle with the chat settings and turn on and off notifications for various features.

All in all the app is pretty nice and it’s clearly simple to use. What sets apart ShoutMe from other similar tools is that the messages you send are protected and sensitive information, such as credit card numbers are secured with SSL encryption.
