Retrica 2.3.2
Retrica by Sangwon Park is free with in-app purchases, but offers enough pop to justify your download.
Everything is where it needs to be
Highly intuitive and minimalistic, Retrica’s UI is based on the flat direction imposed by Apple with the release of iOS 7. The on-screen controls are well spaced out and easy to distinguish, and the color set is easy on the eyes and actually seems to bring out the user’s creative side. Every element is sharp and located exactly where it’s needed.
Retrica has an elegant interface that focuses on content creation and editing. Everything is where it needs to be, but you’ll stumble upon an occasional glitch here and there in this version. Such as when you import something form your gallery and the app fails to mirror these changes.
Another nice feature the app has received allows users to manually control the exposure for their photos. If you have a Bluetooth shutter button you can even use that since the app now supports them.
As the app’s devs seek to make some extra cash, if you watch a sponsored video, you can try a premium filter for free.
Good quality filters and effects
Retrica focuses on filters. You can shoot your photos with a filter already enabled, or you can apply the edits afterwards. The filters are awesome, by the way, unlike anything you’ll find in most free photography apps. The app always gets some new and pretty cool filter packs, which should help you get some nice pictures.
You get vignette, out-of-focus blur, a cool self-timer, various layout Photo Booths, border-selectable and an option to prepare for Instagram.
The Retrica watermark can be turned off in the settings and, most importantly, does not require an in-app purchase. You can even pick it up as soon as you take the photo. Also, you get not one but 14 Retrica logos, all with a pro-level feel to them. The screenshots will explain the rest.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8
Elegant interface that focuses on content creation and editing |
Function9
You can make a very high amount of edits for zero money, and the filters are just out of this world. Some things could be better designed, but the sheer number of features is well worth your download. |
Security7
Has ties to external services (servers), uses location services. But it doesn’t pose any security risks (at least in our testing), and it doesn’t require account making. |
Battery4
Huuuge battery drainer. Phone warms up considerably during use. This factor alone is enough to make you put it down and consider an alternative. |
Price10
All of the advertised content is readily available without spending a dime, and there are no nag screens or pesky ads. |
Compatibility7
Works well on both iOS 6 and iOS 7. No iPad version. Could be better optimized to not suck the battery dry, |
Score would be higher with less battery drain
