Money Personality Test 1.1

See what type of person you are and how you should handle your finances
We’ve had the misfortune of reviewing some of the App Store’s most inaccurate personality test apps, but not all of them are bad. In fact, some of them truly shine. Plus, it’s always nice to see the developer emphasizing that the app should not be taken too seriously, and that it serves as a mere pointer.

Self-evaluation 101

Personality apps are usually bogus. They pretend to scan your finger, or they have you pick a few colors from a stack to tell you that you’re awesome. Some of them are actually quite dangerous, offering in-app purchases that run in the hundreds of dollars, only to remove the ads. So it’s like a breath of fresh air to see something like Money Personality Test, an app that not only is honest and doesn’t have hidden costs, but can also actually help a person make better choices in life.

Mandatory disclaimer

Some developers aren’t quite aware that the apps they put out can be misinterpreted, and can even become harmful to some people. That’s why you need to carefully outline how you app needs to be taken, and whether or not it has any scientific basis. Which is something that Media Marketers didn’t forget:

“The 3 Personalities of Money Financial Profile 3-minute test is not intended to pigeonhole or oversimplify anyone [...] this simple test – which was devised and tested by unbiased academics in the field of Psychology - has one objective: to help Savers, Investors and Speculators define and discover their true financial personality so they can feel more comfortable about who they are and where to invest their money.”

That’s just a fragment of the whole disclaimer which goes to assure the user that the app isn’t manipulative in any way, suggesting that the results of the tests can just as well be dismissed if the user doesn’t agree. Which is certainly what you want to hear from a personality test app.

The actual test

We don’t need to spend any time discussing the actual test because 1) we don’t want to spoil it for you, and 2) the screenshots say it all: your answers to finance-related questions are your personality traits. Go ahead and take the test. We’ve found it to be reliable (give or take a few remarks here and there), and it’s certainly fun and informative.

Bottom Line
Design / UI7

The design of Money Personality Test is a bit old and washed out, and time has gotten to it (it’s badly optimized). But the UI is easy to navigate and there’s virtually no setup.

Function8

The test is fairly intricate and the results are accurate for the most part. The app is very informative.

Security7

Your results remain displayed even after you exit and re-enter the app. You need to close it to erase your history.

Battery9

No drainage here. App runs smooth and draws very little power.

Price10

Technically, the description can be considered an advertisement for Tony Walker’s books and valuable financial advice. But the app itself is fully free of charge.

Compatibility10

Almost any iDevice can handle it because it only requires iOS 4.3. It’s also optimized for tablets.
