McTube for YouTube 5.0
There are some things about the official YouTube app from Google that deserve updating, removing, or at least tweaking. But the search giant won’t barge. It knows we’re addicted to the VOD (video on demand) service, and it doesn’t feel like it has to go to great lengths to appease us.
A great alternative to Google’s app
Well, we can always have it our way by choosing a different app, and today I’m recommending McTube. That’s not to say it a complete replacement for Google’s app, but it does have that simplicity that many of us crave for. So if you’re in the same boat with me, grab a row and listen up.
One thing that differentiates McTube from other YouTube players is that it doesn’t ask for anything in return. You don’t need to log in with your Google credentials to use it, and it doesn’t start with things that other people might like, such as trending, most popular, most viewed, etc.
Instead, it puts these features in a retractible category panel on the left. In addition to these usual perks, you also get subscriptions, watch-later videos, and categories like comedy, education, entertainment, film & animation, music, news & politics, sports, activism, science, and more.
Search, history, my videos
The tabs at the bottom serve for easy searching for a particular video, browsing your history, and managing favorites videos (which sadly doesn’t work offline).
You get a great deal of management features and versatility with this one, plus you can actually use it to play stuff in the background as you go about your business. This feature alone is worth your download.
Country selector, 240p to 1080p
McTube lets you select your country or region and have videos delivered in accordance with your language or location preferences.
Another awesome feature, and probably one that will make the most difference to some users, is that you can tap the gears button at the top and instantly switch between 240p, 360p, 720p (HD) and 1080p (Full HD).
