Learnist 1.3.7

Learn how to do everything from experts, even buy whole guides
Learnist is a very interesting app that you can’t really categorize. It’s part social network, part education tool, part regular reading app. But one thing is for sure. It can help you learn tons of great new stuff.

Content-centric UI

The Learnist GUI is centered around the content submitted by others, such as how to make a almond butter, or how to work your muscles properly, and so on and so forth. It’s got a tile-based interface, and you can choose how to navigate, either by tapping or swiping. One thing it’s missing is a Home button.

Learnist uses translucency, minimalistic graphics, and an overall elegant design. The image quality is very high, and navigation is a breeze. However, it doesn’t have a home button, which forces you to hit Back multiple times to get to the main Learnist page.

Crowd-sourced effort

Learnist is a crowd-sourced service that collects the world’s knowledge. It offers curated web, text and video content on what the developer calls Learnboards. It covering tens-of-thousands of topics, and there’s no shortage of social interaction either. You can follow people just like on Twitter and get their curation on a regular basis.

You can save stuff in your Reading List, but you can’t read this stuff offline, which is a bit of a turn off. Even the lamest web browser has this feature.

You get to have your own profile, complete with an avatar and a background picture, and you can sign in with Facebook if you want. There are a lot of settings that you can tweak, but the default experience should be fine for everyone. You probably won’t need to pay the Settings pane a visit any time soon.

Learnist Collect allows you to save and share the things you’re learning from anywhere around the web by adding any URL to the app via the new iOS share extension. You can even add a category and what you learned and to save it for later, or even share it with the rest of the world. This is possible thanks to the new iOS 8 support and to the operating system’s new share extension.
