LastPass Password Manager & Secure Digital Vault for Premium Customers 3.1.7
That’s why it’s always advisable to use a password manager to save your trusted sites and eliminate the hassle of punching in your credentials every time you want to access an account.
A messy UI
LastPass is a good choice for keeping your online credentials secure. But it lacks an attractive interface, and this can put off the desire to visit your favorite web locations through its crummy UI. Granted, it’s the functionality that matters most in this case.
Powerful auto-filler
Much like any other password manager, LastPass comes fully loaded with all the tools you need to save sites and the associated user names and passwords, so that the second time you visit them you only have to tap once and log in.
The built-in browser is very primitive and choppy. Because it has to sit together with the rest of the management features, it runs slowly and doesn’t fill up the screen. It’s a horrible browsing experience that causes some sites to render badly. LastPass would be clever to just move the browser into its own separate tab, away from the rest of the app.
The welcome guide is a nice touch, and adding your first site is also pretty easy. You can also add tons of secure notes in categories like Generic, Bank Account, Credit Card, Database, Driver’s License, Email Account, etc. The form filler has options for Insurance, Membership, Passport, Server, Social, Software (licenses), and many others.
LastPass even includes security tests to assess the strength of your password and your browsing habits. The iPad version looks and works pretty much in the same way.
If you enable LastPass in Safari, you’ll be able to fill in web logins instantly, without even having to leave the browser since the extension gives direct access to the data in LastPass’ vault. The app comes with login support directly via Share within the app for some 70 apps, the list including Flipboard, Uber, and Foursquare to name a few.
For an added layer of security, the app can be set to use Touch ID to protect all your other passwords. Basically, items that would normally need for you to provide the master password can be authorized with the help of your fingerprint. Also, while browsing in Safari and launching the LastPass extension, you can use Touch ID to authorize the tool to fill in the web login.
Wrong default settings
The option to set a passcode on the app is there, but it’s not switched on by default. Unfortunately, as it stands you can exist LastPass, forget your phone on a stool, and the first person who finds it and launches the app will have full access to your credentials. An app that tells you to trust it with your credit card information needs to be airtight.

Bottom Line
Design / UI6
LastPass is not exactly a role model for the Utilities category. But some tools really need to work well first, and look good second. |
Function9
Very extensive set of features for storing sites and associated passwords, an area for Secure Notes, and a powerful auto-filler with a truckload of options for different types of forms. |
Security7
For all its security features, LastPass fails to do the one thing every password manager should do before letting you save passwords in its interface: require a master passcode every time you return to the app. |
Battery8
Normal consumption levels. Browser can put some strain on the CPU. |
Price8
LastPass for Premium Customers works for 14 days with all features enabled, then turns into a limited app with some restrictions. Basically, you’ll have to buy it ($11.99 / €10.99) to continue using everything as before, but the core functionality is nonetheless free. |
Compatibility10
All devices are supported natively and without problems. Minimum firmware is iOS 5. |
Don’t forget your phone anywhere
