Lapse It 2.52
Time lapse is mostly used to capture slowly-changing events, such as the movement of clouds, a sunset, flowers blooming, grass growing, etc. Not all time lapse applications are up for the task. Some are better than others. Among them, Lapse It (from Interactive Universe) is one of the best we’ve tried so far.
Not just a pretty face
Unlike other time lapse tools we’ve tested, Lapse It actually puts as much emphasis on the user interface as it does on the end results. The app launches to a splash screen featuring the Lapse It logo, followed by a Home screen where you can find options for New Capture, Gallery, Settings, and Become a Pro. Inside every section, the button layout is very intuitive and usable.
Time lapse done right
Arguably one of the best time laps tools we’ve tried so far, Lapse It includes tons of options to churn out just the right type of video. You can set the frame interval however you prefer, set the frame rate for the output video, even loop the clip if you want to make something funny.
You can apply effects to your video, trim it and even add a score (in the pro version) to make it more dramatic. The rendering happens fast and painless, unlike with other similar apps.
The tool allows users to import pre-recorded videos from the gallery as time lapse projects, which will enable them to speed up or slow down the videos. There are manual capture controls for exposure, ISO, focus and white balance so you can get the best results, while zooming ramping over time has been added to the zooming feature.
There are dozens of effect filters to make everything that much more visually-appealing.
Despite including ads and in-app purchases, the experience is not at all hindered by these bumps in the road, so to speak. The free version is enough to get a good time lapse video of any duration you want, and if you go pro you get a massive amount of new abilities, including high definition, more effects, sound tracks, the ability to resume capture, no ads, and much more.
In a nutshell
Hands down one of the best time laps tools we’ve had the pleasure of testing at Softpedia. It’s fast, reliable, and packs a massive array of features only in the free version, while going pro really means going professional with this one. You’ll incur an occasional crash, but it’s in the job description when it comes to this kind of app.

Bottom Line
Design / UI9
Lapse It looks great inside and out. The engineers at Interactive Universe know what they’re doing, and we hope they keep it up. |
Function9
Fast, reliable, and packs a massive array of features only in the free version alone |
Security9
Can send videos to social networks and requires an account with the company for posting to its internal gallery. |
Battery7
For an app that shoots photos endlessly, the power consumption is quite decent. It even dims the screen while it’s working its magic to save power. |
Price9
The free version includes just the right mix of features to let you achieve some amazing results. The developers are not pushy about the Pro version, which you’ll eventually buy when you see how cool this app is. $1.99 / €1.79 is a bargain for what Lapse It has to offer. |
Compatibility9
iOS 6.0 and up. Considering its GPU/CPU requirements, the app runs on every compatible iDevice in existence. There’s no iPad version, but surely there isn’t much demand for one anyway. |
