Flavour 2.0

Picture this: you’re going out in, let’s say, New York City, in a certain part of town that you rarely frequent. You feel like having some Vietnamese food tonight, or maybe something Caribbean, but have no idea where to head to. What do you do? You search for it, of course.

There are, however, easier ways to do things than Google for them. While I wouldn’t normally say this, I’ve gotten lost in an endless list of restaurants on several occasions and it wasn’t pretty or time-efficient.

Find the best restaurants

Flavour is an iOS app that will help you find the place you need wherever you’ll be going. Well, as long as you’re going to visit one of the four cities supported by the app, that is.

The tool lists hundreds of restaurants for Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco, although more are going to be added in the near future, the devs say. For each of these cities, there’s a list of food types that you can experience and pick from so the app can narrow things down for you.

For instance, in New York you can pick out from the longest list that includes African, American, Asian, Brazilian, Caribbean, Chinese, Cuban, Eastern European, German, Greek, Mexican, Scandinavian, Southern and soon. Basically, whatever kind of food you’re craving, you’re likely to find it listed there since it seems like it just goes on forever. This will probably also make you even more confused about the type of food you want if you’re not yet decided, but that’s another story altogether.

Filter the results

For each location, you can pick the neighborhood you’re going to be in so the app can narrow things even further.

You can even make sure the location you’re going to visit fits a special request you have, such as being available for brunch, business meetings, private events and special occasions. You can even ask for it to have Michelin stars if you want.

Once you pick a restaurant from the selection, you’ll be able to see its location on a map and a note regarding a review it received. You can even find out more details about it, check out the menu and call for reservation straight from the app, making your life that much easier.

Of course, you don’t have to pick out a certain neighborhood if you really want to find a specific type of restaurant, or even a type of cuisine you’re looking for, although it will certainly help narrow it down to a manageable number of restaurants.

The app is great and works fast, even though there’s a slight delay when it comes to scrolling through the cuisine list. Overall, however, it seems like something that could really come in handy, especially if it added a lot more cities to the mix, from all over the world. This is certainly the kind of app that food enthusiasts could enjoy regardless of their location around the world.
