Favorite Color Personality Test 1.0
Bad UI
Unfortunately, many developers leave their apps out to rot. It’s the case of Favorite Color Personality. It still lives in the days of iOS 3, and that includes a UI that’s tailored for devices with 3.5-inch screens. The idea is nice, and it’s a fairly straightforward. However, the layout is so badly optimized for today’s phones and firmwares that even the ad banner fails to display, essentially making $0 for the developer.
False marketing
“Find out secrets about your personality from your three most favorite colors. You will be surprised with the results.” That’s the whole description. Normally we don’t have a problem with fun apps, despite the fact that they’re essentially spam. But the developer is required (by the App Store’s guidelines) to specify that it’s meant for entertainment purposes, that it doesn’t have any scientific background, etc. Or, if it does have scientific background, then it should state that as well. Because, who knows, someone might be told some inaccurate things about their personality based on their color choices.
Test results are general and predictable
The app generalizes quite a lot, and the descriptions are very predictable. For example, “You care creative, caring and artistic.” Or, “most times, you are looking for some change in your life.” I think that describes about half of the world’s population. And it’s not very probably that half of the world’s population has the same three favorite colors, especially when you have choices like cyan, indigo, and gold. Just saying.

Bottom Line
Design / UI0
The design isn’t particularly bad, but the UI is badly optimized for today’s hardware. It also has a dark background which conflicts with some visual elements (i.e. the black tile). |
Function0
Color Personality Test is meant for fun, but the developer fails to mention this. The app also doesn’t say what kind of research went into creating the test conclusions. |
Security0
It can give people the wrong impression about themselves. We think it matters more than the five seconds of entertainment it has to offer. |
Battery0
Normal consumption levels. |
Price0
Can’t complain about anything in this department, but there clearly is an ad placeholder at the bottom of the UI. |
Compatibility0
High marks here as well - every iDevice in existence is supported - but it won’t count for the final score. |
It’s not a scam, but there’s not much value in it either.
