Duorey 1.0
A great experience, that is, if you have the right tools at your disposal. Duorey is an app that serves as a “music social platform,” as the developers put it. Basically, you’ll be able to locate music from iTunes and SoundCloud, once you log in for these services, and listen to playlists put together by other users.
What can it do?
You can check out a bunch of these, both from the “hot” list and from the list of new entries. Swiping up will reveal more of these playlists, with a number indicating how many times it’s been listened to visible on the album covers used for them.
Once you access any of the playlists, you can view how many likes it has, as well as how many subscribers. If you want to join in, you can do this too by tapping the “like” button or the RSS one to subscribe. The number of tracks inside can be viewed once you access the playlist.
Setting up a playlist of your own is fairly simple and only requires that you search for a track and add it to a playlist that already exists or one that you can make from scratch. You’ll be able to view both those you like and those you created from the “Playlist” tab, which is pretty self-explanatory.
The activity feed reveals what other users have done in the past few minutes. The music player allows you to control the volume, to jump to tracks back and forth, and even to play around with the track order by switching between shuffle, repeat all or repeat one. It’s also possible to check out the entire playlist by tapping the list icon in the top right corner.
The bad
Now, while all this sounds great, things aren’t all milk and honey. That’s because using this app is extremely annoying due to the fact that most of these tracks are only available for 30 seconds.
Sure, that’s because the app relies on iTunes where, if you haven’t bought the track, that’s how long the preview is. Things don’t get much better when you link up SoundCloud. Even if you find the artist or song you’re looking for, you may not get the full track from there either. To make matters worse, when I did manage to find a full-length track the audio was completely wrong. Since I was using WiFi and I’ve never had headphone issues on my iPhone 6 Plus the problem couldn’t have been related to the Internet connection or the hardware. That being said, the track sounded like it was being played by an old radio that was wrongly tuned to the station.
So, if you’re trying to relax and listen to some actual music, you may want to try out a different app since this one will leave you at wits’ ends. The only way you’ll love this app is if you really, really like listening to 30-second tracks.
