Animal Personality Test 1.1
Curation still not at its finest
One of the reasons we took on the responsibility to download apps and review them was to add a second layer of curation to the Apple App Store. Because apparently it needs it, badly.
A good example of that is Animal Personality Test, a bogus app that pretends to use an “advanced algorithm engine” to scan your finger and match your traits to the animal species closest to you.
The iPhone isn’t equipped with any sensors that are capable of extracting personality info, and the app doesn’t enhance the phone’s hardware in any way. It just senses that the screen has been touched and falsely claims to be processing your request.
In-app purchases at their worst
False marketing is one thing, but when you factor in the appalling in-app purchases, each priced at $99.99 / €89.99, you begin to feel downright robbed.
Plus, with every scan the app serves up a different picture of an altogether different animal. It doesn’t know who touched the phone, and whether it’s a woman or a man, a child or an adult, etc. It just serves up random photos and hopes that you mistakenly make an in-app purchase. Plus, it’s got ads. Not too surprising, really.
Should be yanked
The app is not only poorly designed and just a massive ripoff, it also has a 3.5-inch UI for the old iPhone models and no optimizations for today’s bigger screens. Not surprisingly, the minimum firmware requirement is iOS 3. Normally we’d laud the low firmware requirement, but in this case we have nothing good to say about this scam.

Bottom Line
Design / UI2
Poor design, hasn’t received a facelift since four years ago. |
Function1
The app doesn’t do anything and its developer fails to say it’s for informational purposes only. |
Security1
This is the first app we’ve come across that attempts to scam people for such exorbitant sums of money. |
Battery8
Don’t worry, we won’t let the high battery score affect the final grade. And we don’t mean that in a good way. |
Price1
A total of $200 / €180 is the price for the full product, whose value is practically $0. |
Compatibility9
It gets high marks here because we have to be fair about the grading system. But we’ll go into Alzheimer’s mode when we calculate the final grade. |
Put bluntly, avoid it and report it to be yanked from the App Store. We'll do the same
