Stagefright Detector App 4.1

Detect if your phone or tablet are vulnerable to the Stagefright virus using this neat app
People like to store all sort of personal information on their phones, mainly because they like to keep it close and at ars length at all times. Still, Android devices are susceptible to malware, just like any other operating system.

Android phones are vulnerable to all sort of viruses that you encounter, especially if you use it mainly for accessing the internet. Fortunately, there are applications that help detect whether your device is vulnerable. One of such apps is Stagefright Detector App.

Simplistic UI with only a few features

The app doesn't come with any instructions or a tutorial, to provide users with more information on Stagefright virus. The interface is quite intuitive, it only has one screen and almost no tools, not to mention that you don't have a settings menu and there are no options to adjust.

The app simply runs a test on your device to determine if your device has the virus or its vulnerable to it. If the app finds your device vulnerable, you won't be able to make any fixes using this app.

What is Stagefright?

Stagefright is an exploit that capitalizes on vulnerabilities within the software that Google's Android OS uses to process, play and record multimedia files.

The vulnerability is initiated through the sending of a simple picture message or it can make its way onto your device simply by landing on a webpage containing affected embedded video content.

Once an Android device has been infected by Stagefright, a hacker can remotely access the device's microphone, camera, and external storage. In come cases, they can even gain root access to the device. However, out of million of devices that are susceptible to this virus, not one user reported their device hacked.

How to get rid of the vulnerability?

The app simply scans your device and determines whether you are susceptible to the Stagefright virus, but it won't help you remove the vulnerability. Actually, the only way that you're device will be protected from Stagefright is by installing the Android OS patch.

Users must simply wait for the developer to launch a patch and install it on their phones. This application anonymously collect the results of the test and shares it with device vendors and carriers through ZHA.
