Z Launcher 1.1.2-Beta
Truly amazing layout
Nokia manages to impress with a one-of-a-kind launcher that sports probably the most stylish interface we've ever come across. The design is completely different from any other launches that we've tested, proving that the company knows a thing of two about delivering stylish products.
The launcher comes with a tutorial and it's highly recommended that users check it out, since it provides much needed tips on how to navigate in the app. Normally, launchers come with plenty of customization features, but this is in an early stage, so it doesn't even have wallpapers, options to customize icons or adjust the app drawer.
Still, users can create shortcuts for the home screen by simply dragging icons and the launcher will still display alerts in the notification bar. All apps displayed on the home screen can be hidden, for privacy purposes.
Most used apps displayed on the home screen
Z Launcher Beta customizes the home screen based on the user's app preferences. It takes a couple of days to learn the user's behavior, the most accessed apps, browsers or contacts, after which it creates shortcuts on the home screen, with the most popular app on top of the list of 6.
Users have the option of creating four permanent shortcuts to apps on the bottom of the screen. Z Launcher won't seem appealing to all users, especially those that take pleasure in organizing their apps, by creating folders, shortcuts and adding screen widgets as the only widgets available in this launcher are clock and weather and they're not customizable at all.
Scribble to search
We've saved the best for last, Nokia's Scribble feature is truly the best tool this launcher has to offer and it works like a charm. Simply write a letter on your screen and the launcher almost instantly opens a list of apps that start with that letter. If you can't find what you're looking for in the list of 6 suggestions, continue by writing the next ones.
Z Launcher truly makes us reconsider our calligraphy skills, especially since we've gotten used to using only keyboards for writing. Still, it's a fun way of accessing almost everything on your phone, but it can be a bit annoying at first, since we're so used to swiping through screens and have the tendency to do the same in this launcher.

Bottom Line
Design / UI10
Probably the most stylish and well designed launcher out there. It truly comes as a breath of fresh air, managing to simplify even the most clogged phone screens. |
Function9
It has some bugs when moving icons to the toolbar, but it's the beta version so we'll let it slide. Scribble works like a charm. |
Security10
The launcher records your behavior in order to learn your preferences and provide you with a customized home screen. Therefore, it needs access to many areas of your phone but this feature can be turned off. |
Battery10
Power consumption is almost unnoticeable, the launcher does a good job at leaving your resources almost intact. |
Price10
Completely free of charge, the app has no ads or in-app purchases whatsoever proving that Nokia is a top developer. |
Compatibility8
According to Play Store, the app requires Android version 4.1 of later, but since it's only in the beta version it might not work on certain phones. |
If the beta version looks so good, then the final version must truly be astonishing.
