Vimeo 1.1.42
Dated UI, unbecoming for a platform with millions of subscribers
If you were to compare YouTube's interface with that of Vimeo, the latter would definitely lose. Vimeo's design looks dated and cheap, the icons are gray and chunky as if features need to be unlocked.
Tap on the settings icon and it'll display your account, check out the help section and it opens your browser, displaying vimeo.com official website, but not the section with instructions or at least with a presentation about Vimeo. The interface was clearly not created with the user in mind and new subscribers might just skip this platform because of the app.
Browse through millions of videos
I'm sure that if it weren't for the content, many subscribers would skip this platform and not bother with the annoying UI. It doesn't seem like videos are arranged into specific categories based on genre and content, but the editor's picks section is worth checking out. There are all sorts of videos there, some of the most popular on the platform.
Tap on a video to see who the uploader is, the cast, read a short summary, comment, like or share it with friends. But make sure to do that before playing the video, as the screen automatically goes to landscape mode and there's no option of browsing and watching at the same time, for all those multitasking users. Still, you can like videos and save videos to watch later.
Join the platform and upload content
Vimeo's main advantage is its quality and artistic videos and short films, offered for free. In order to use Vimeo, you should join the platform with an account. There are three types of accounts available, the basic one, Vimeo Plus membership for $9.95 per month or Vimeo PRO $199 per year. Each of them comes with its advantages, especially relating to storage space and privacy.
All in all, the app doesn't do a great job competing against YouTube, at least not when it comes to app interface and features. It doesn't provide you with a history of videos you've watched, the search bar is relatively useless as it doesn't come with auto-fill suggestions, video quality can't be adjusted, no Chromecast support and it takes a while to load.

Bottom Line
Design / UI6
Dated UI with chunky icons, the interface gives out a cheap feel, unsuitable for a video-sharing platform with millions of members. |
Function5
No Chromecast, no history recording, the app shows you wish users have liked a video, but not the total number of views or likes. |
Security9
Vimeo is very private and won't peak into unnecessary areas of your phone. It also keeps the videos you upload private and allows only your friends to see them. |
Battery6
It's a video-streaming and sharing platform so it will drain your battery, make sure to keep your phone plugged in. |
Price9
Absolutely no ads, not even those 30-seconds video ads found in YouTube clips. The only thing that Vimeo will charge you is for unlocking features. |
Compatibility9
The app should work just fine on devices running Android version 2.3.3 or later, including tablets. |
If it wasn't for the dated and simplistic UI, Vimeo would be a true competitor against YouTube.
