Universal Password Manager 1.15

Save passwords to your phone using this nifty application
Password managers are important apps to have on your phone especially because they can help you store and most importantly save passwords to your phone, especially since it's important to use different ones for each of your accounts.

Universal Password Manager is a nice app that can helps you with just that. Use the app to type in and protect all sorts of important information, especially usernames and passwords.

Dated UI that lacks a tutorial

We've tested quite a few password manager apps and they all have something special, if not a sleek interface. It seems that developers who created Universal Password Manager didn't put much emphasis on design but rather on functionality and ease of use. The 'hamburger' icon stores some settings while the app sports a dark background without any options of changing it. There's no tutorial or even a slide show presentation of the app, and it doesn't provide new users with any instructions or tips.

Create a new database

The app lets you create a new database with passwords or restore one from backup. You can even link your account to Dropbox to retrieve information. The first thing you'll need to do when creating a database is to provide a master password to encrypt it.

You can search through databases to find passwords, add new ones or sync with Dropbox or via HTTP Server. All you need to do when adding an account is to provide a name, a user ID, the password and the URL. You also have the option of adding notes to your accounts.

Backup data

You can change the master password at any given time and the app lets you backup databases to your phone so you wouldn't lose information. There's no option of opening links within the app, because it lacks a browser. Still, whenever you launch the app it requires you to enter the master password but you can't choose an interval in which the app locks.

Other than that, there's no option of grouping accounts into certain categories and the app doesn't give you with the tools for generating passwords. Also, it would have been nice if it provided users with the option of a two layer protection.

Bottom Line
Design / UI7

The interface is boring with a dark background and no option of changing the theme or adding some color to it.

Function8

We've seen better but the app is really intuitive compared to others. Also, if offers the option of backing up passwords to your phone and connects to Dropbox.

Security9

One of the most secure password managers out there, it only needs access to one area of your phone, media files.

Battery9

Minimal consumption of battery, far less than any other password manager apps that we've tested so far.

Price9

Completely free of charge and it doesn't even come with ads, still developers have a separate section in which they receive donations.

Compatibility9

It should work just fine on devices running Android version 2.2 or later, making it accessible to many users.

Editor's Review
VERY GOOD

A good password manager app but it desperately needs more features.
