TripAdvisor is one of the most popular apps which many tourists use before and during their trips, so you know that it must be filled with updated information and plenty of reliable reviews.

Easy-to-use UI that might seem a bit crammed

The interface is fluent and comes with plenty of instructions, but it may seem a bit crowded with many features and sections. In order to use the app to the fullest, you must sign in with your Facebook or Google+ account. It doesn't come with ads so you don't have to worry about useless banners taking up screen space and there are no nagging messages to rate it.

You can set notifications and change the currency of prices or units. In addition, there's a help center where you can find all the information you need about the app, together with travel tools like guides and other useful apps and a forum where all the users post comments based on topics and destinations.

Plan your trip with Tripadvisor

Trip planning is the main function in this app. It launches with a search bar, where you can find cities, hotels, restaurants and more. There's also the option of using the Hotels section, where you'll need to type in the destination, check in/out dates and lodging type.

The app will then search for available rooms with the lowest price, you can sort or filter hotels and even view their location on the map. The app also offers you the option of directly calling, emailing or saving results to your phone. There's also information on amenities, reviews and photo galleries. TripAdvisor connects with Uber, so if you're neat the hotel, you can find a ride.

Book flights or vacation rentals

In addition to hotel rooms, the app also lets users book flights, vacation rentals, find restaurants and rooms near their current location, and find tourist attractions. Users also have the option of uploading their own reviews and photos of rooms.

TripAdvisor lets you download maps and reviews on certain cities, so you can access then without an internet connection. Still the app comes with some shortcomings, like it takes a while to load and doesn't let users choose flexible dates for flight booking.
