QR Code Reader 2.2.4

Scan QR and barcodes, save history in cloud with this neat app
QR codes have become more popular with the spread of smartphones, but the trademark barcode was first designed for the automotive industry in Japan. Now, they're largely used in advertising campaigns all over the world, to provide quick access to websites and content stored on them. Since not all phones come with a QR code reader installed on them, it's only natural that Android users must download one off Play Store. We've picked the most popular one, QR Code Reader.

Sleek interface with all features at hand

By default, QR code reader are uncomplicated apps with a simplistic but highly functional UI. And this app is no exception. There's no on screen tutorial, but the app has plenty of instructions under the 'hamburger' icon.

It will tell you everything you need to know about the app, together with the steps you need to take in order to scan codes. However, users should know that the barcode scanner users ShopAdvisor to collect information on the product and it may not work properly if you're not located in the US.

Scan various codes

The app is great for scanning 2D QR codes and 1D bar codes. All you need to do is launch the app and point your phone so that the QR code fits into the frames displayed on your screen. In addition, it's important to bring the code into perfect focus. The app comes with a 'tap to focus' feature that helps you focus the image making sure the code is scanned.

Also, varying distances and holding the phone still can also help achieve the right focus. If the app can't scan a code, try to keep the device steady and still. If that doesn't work try moving your device closer and further away to find the best point of focus. In addition, good lighting also affects the scanning, so make sure there aren't any glares or shadows over the code and enable the camera's flashlight if necessary.

Sync your codes in cloud

Users may sign in with Facebook, Google+ or Twitter and have their scans saved into cloud. The app also keep a history on your device, of QR codes that you've scanned. You can access them at any time.

There's also the option of having your phone vibrate and make sounds after it successfully scanned a code and having it ask for permission to open the link in your browser. One neat feature about this app is that it can scan and open QR codes on pictures saved on your phone.
