Create a route on maps installed on your phone without consuming your mobile data

Google Play Store is filled with GPS navigation maps but not all have enough features to keep users interested or the interface isn't easy to follow. Navfree is one of the top navigation apps out there, with so many downloads that it surely caught our eye. It comes with free maps and a bunch of features that you can enjoy when planning a route.

Free maps on your phone

The app offers free maps that must be downloaded on phones in order to use. The great thing about this is that you don't have to use mobile data with this app. It also recommends users to download maps only via WiFi.

There are many OSM maps to choose from and they also provide you with information on when the map was last updated, so you'd know that the content is reliable. Also the app comes in multiple languages. The maps are free but you'll need to upgrade if you want to create a cross-country route. It's a voice guided navigation app so you can adjust the volume if you'd like.

Create routes

The menu is on the bottom right of the screen. Use the navigate feature to simply type in an address and the app will display the location on the map. Although, search should be available offline it seems it doesn't work, or at least not for all countries. You can create routes with the tap of one finger.

You can see an overview of your route, the distance in miles or km, get directions, add detours or watch a demo video. The map comes with a compass, the option to zoom or change the view. It also determines the speed with which you're driving and displays gas stations available. However, it comes with ads but they won't really bother you since you'll be using the navigation in your car and offline.

Plenty of other cool features

The app has plenty more to offer. You can choose favorite destinations, set a home location and get routes instantly. NavFree also connects with Foursquare, Google and contacts in your phone to make it easier to find routes to your destination.

Also, there's a section that records all the places you've recently visited. There are also other features that you can add to the app, but you'll need to pay between 2.28 and 37.63$ for an upgrade.

Bottom Line

Design / UI9 Neat interface with plenty of features at hand, but it has some design flaws like the zoom icon is too small.	Function8 It works good, but offline searches aren't available and the demo video has many glitches.	Security8 It doesn't require online registration, but needs quite a few permissions from your phone.
Battery7 Consumption is high, but that's normal considering that the app needs location services and displays a map with sound.	Price8 It comes with banner ads and additional features can be purchased with prices varying between 2.28 and 37.63$.	Compatibility8 It should work just fine on devices running Android version 2.3.3 or later.
