Sleek and intuitive interface
The navigator has one of the most lightweight and easy-to-use interfaces that we've seen. It comes with plenty of instructions and tips for getting accustomed with the app. MapQuest comes with a selection of icons to choose from and plenty of more to purchase from the store inside the app.
You can change the distance units from miles to kilometers or the walking direction alert. Have the app display traffic based routes or auto rotate if you need it to. In addition, you can have it display the satellite view map.
Use the navigator to get around
MapQuest uses a map that resembles that of Google Maps, but this one is ill-fitted and blurry. It comes with a compass and gestures for zooming in/out of the map. Use the search bar to simply type in a direction of your choice and tap on go to get directions.
The app will automatically find your location and voice-guide you there, even if you're walking. You have the option of adding layers over maps that pinpoint the location of sponsored venues, restaurants, hotels, gas stations, shops, coffee shops, bars etc. The app can also show you the location of airports, banks, hospitals and pharmacies.
Some shortcomings
The aforementioned layers aren't available for all locations. Still, you can have the app record your home and work address to make it easier to find various locations.
Unfortunately the map isn't available offline, so you'll need a solid internet connection when using it. In addition to that, it seems to crash whenever it's trying to retrieve your location and can't seem to draw a route on the map, so you could see if it's actually the shortest way to your destination.
