Firefox Browser

A fast, easy-to-use and secure browser that puts the whole web at your fingertips
Developed by the non-profit organization Mozilla Foundation, Firefox has gained its fair share of loyal users over time. Packed with the same powerful features that make the desktop version stand out from the crowd, Firefox comes as highly recommended when looking for an Android browser.

Easy-to-use GUI at your fingertips

Firefox sports a clean user interface, designed to maximize the browsing area and to put all the functionality you need a few taps away. The first thing you will notice when opening the browser is, as Mozilla likes to call it, the Awesome Screen. Here you can access all your favorite websites, visited pages and bookmarks from a single place. The Top Sites tab functions as a speed dial and shows thumbnails of the most visited websites. The order of the websites changes depending on which ones you have visited the most but, if you want a website to stay in the same place, you can pin it.

After opening a website, you can access the Awesome Screen again by tapping on a similarly named UI element, namely the Awesome Bar. The Awesome Bar functions as a universal search tool, making it very fast to find a website using as little typing as possible. The bar offers suggestions from multiple sources, including installed search engines, bookmarks, history and even opened tabs.

Browser that supports the latest HTML5

Web technologies are constantly evolving and Firefox does a very good job at keeping up the pace. The app features full support for the latest HTML5 standard and, for those who want to enjoy all the web has to offer, it can also render Flash content with a bit of tweaking. The latter part requires Flash Player to be installed, which is not listed in the Google Play Store and is available only as an apk file on Adobe's website. However, on websites with lots of Flash content, performance was sluggish and the browser even crashed a few times when trying to run a Flash game.
Committed to safeguarding user privacy, Mozilla placed great emphasis on security-related features.

One of the main strengths of Firefox is that you can expand its functionality with add-ons. While the list of add-ons available for the mobile version is not as comprehensive as the one for its desktop counterpart, there are plenty of useful add-ons to be found here. Whether you need to change the user-agent to impersonate another browser, speed up navigation with slide gestures, download content from various video sharing websites or take screenshots of webpages, Firefox has you covered.

Bottom Line
Design / UI9

Firefox sports an intuitive and uncluttered interface. The Awesome Bar and the Awesome Screen greatly improve the user experience.

Function9

Good performance, fast page loading and lots of customization options make Firefox a pleasure to work with. Add-ons can greatly enhance the app's functionality.

Security9

Firefox is packed with features for privacy-concerned users, including private tabs and guest browsing, to name but a few. When found, security issues are usually quickly addressed by the developers.

Battery8

Firefox app was well optimized not to drain the battery, so you don't have to worry about that.

Price10

Firefox is completely free and open source, without ads of any kind. A minor annoyance, at least for me, is a bar displayed at the bottom of the Awesome screen, which fortunately can be easily disabled from settings.

Compatibility9

Firefox runs equally well on both smartphones and tablets. The minimum required OS version is 2.2, making it compatible with a wide range of Android devices.
