Earbits Music 1.2.8
It doesn't need a subscription, users may register with an account if they wish to favorite songs. The concept behind the app is quite nice but the execution is poor and the UI needs lots of improvement.
Nice interface but it needs a lot of more work
Earbits is a great application if you were looking for a way to discover new bands and expand your musical experience. However, it comes with lots of bugs, some minor while others quite annoying.
The app doesn't come with a settings menu and thus doesn't follow the guidelines of Android applications, but it does have a toolbar with features on the bottom of the screen. The app scans your gallery to find music genres that you like the most and provide you with suggestions of bands to listen to.
Discover new songs and artists
The app comes with a selection of nice music handpicked by editors and arranged by category and subgenre. Simply tap on one to open the playlist and start listening.
The app doesn't come with an equalizer and the sound quality isn't always best, but that depends on tracks that you listen to. The home section is filled with recommendations, while categories are found under the channels icon.
Moreover, the app gives you access to your own gallery of songs and provides you with a bio for every artist in the app, as well as pictures that you can check out, but many of them come in a poor resolution.
Some shortcomings and bugs
Users that sign in may favorite songs and find them in the artists section, with the app's icon on the left. Developers should really consider creating a separate section for favorited tracks and not mix them together with songs from your phone.
You can listen to multiple songs by a favorited band, but there's a whole coin process that charges you for that. The app doesn't come with a car or sleep mode, and it also lacks controls for the lock screen.
The bar in the notifications section doesn't update with the name of the playing song and there's no actual close button, meaning users must access Android settings to force close the app.

Bottom Line
Design / UI7
The interface is okay, but it needs a settings section and pictures of artists should have a higher resolution. |
Function7
Sound quality isn't the best and the app has some serious bugs it needs fixed and some basic features that need to be added. |
Security8
Users may sign up with Facebook or email and the app doesn't need many permissions from your phone. |
Battery5
Consumption is quite high and the app doesn't have an exit button, which means that it keeps functioning in the background and taking up resources. |
Price10
The main advantage of this app is that it doesn't require users to make any payments and doesn't have ads. |
Compatibility7
It should work just fine on devices running Android version 4.0.3 or later. |
It really needs some more work, but it's great that it's free.
