Atom Launcher 2.2.7
Interface with a chunky feel
It's all about rough-edges and chunky icons with this app. Upon launching it gives a dated feel, but when you look closer you see that some icons are gray because they mimic crayon drawings. But for the sake of consistency, all icons should come in the same style if you check the setting from the menu.
The launcher comes with one installed themes and plenty of others to download, some are free others must be purchased. While the launcher itself isn't confusing, you might feel overwhelmed by the multitude of settings and changes you can do to the interface. In fact, a tutorial would have been useful especially for new users but there isn't one.
Plenty of features to choose from
On the top of the screen the launcher displays the date, time and battery status, you can choose whichever style you like. All settings are neatly arranged at the top of the screen. You can set the theme and have the app switch to a different background each time you turn on the screen.
But the images must be selected from your phone, as the launcher comes only with one picture. Other than that you can choose shortcuts or widgets to add to your home screen.
Just like for other launchers, there's the option of arranging the grid, its number of columns and rows, have the screen auto-rotate or hide the status bar. It has a search widget for your home screen.
Set gestures to better manage your apps
A launcher app should make things easier for users, especially if they tend to have screens clogged with various apps. However, Atom Launcher doesn't allow users to organize their apps into categories to make it easier to find them. Still it has nice screen transition effects to choose from.
Moreover, all apps in the drawer aren't sorted alphabetically which means that users must go to settings and do that themselves. Still, it comes with some features that are otherwise locked in other launchers. Gestures are some of those features, together with custom bars filled with shortcuts to essential apps and tools in your phone.

Bottom Line
Design / UI8
The interface seems a bit chunky with rough-edges, while the background has an industrial feel to it. But you can change the wallpaper and set one of your own. |
Function9
It comes with plenty of features to choose from. In fact, the number of tools seems a bit overwhelming. The good news is that you only have to customize it once. |
Security5
It needs access to a surprisingly high number of areas on your phone, making us think that it doesn't leave any areas unexplored. |
Battery7
It doesn't consume as much battery as a drainer app, but it's not far from it. |
Price9
No ads, but plenty of little features to be purchased in this app to make it more visually appealing. |
Compatibility8
It works only on devices running Android version 4.0 or later, making it inaccessible to many users. |
Visually-unappealing but full featured launcher with some unique tools.
