Gestures Beta 2.1.1.11
The use of certain gestures that are meant to allow users to carry out a variety of actions with regard to incoming calls and during the actual phone conversation is completely new on Microsoft's platform, but thanks to Gestures it has just become a reality.
One screen for everything
The application is installed separately and will not integrate in the "Settings" menu of the phone, as some would expect. Instead, it appears in the list of apps and can can be configured and used as such.
There is nothing much about the interface as Gestures only comes with a configuration screen where all the options are presented for you to activate or deactivate with a single tap.
Incoming call management
This app focuses mostly on controlling several functions when receiving calls or while having an actual conversation on the handset. Thus, it will enable you to mute the ringer when you have an incoming call by simply placing the device face down on a perfectly plane surface.
Gestures uses the handset's sensors to carry out even more advanced tasks like answering the incoming call if you simply raise the phone to your ear, just like you would normally do after pressing the button to accept the call.
Useful gestures during the phone call
With this application you can enjoy some extra features that will come in handy when you are talking to someone. Thus, in case you want to put the other person on speaker all you have to is place the phone onto a flat surface, facing up. To return to normal mode simply raise the phone and the speaker will be deactivated automatically.
To cut the microphone while in a conversation you can put the phone facing down on the table and turn the mic back on by raising the handset.
Optional requirements and usage tips
All these functions may not be available on just about any Windows Phone device or they can have various issues, depending on the model, as Microsoft singled out 630, 635 and 530 handsets as having some problems from this respect.
Also, as those who own a Nokia Lumia 1520 device will surely notice, it is hard to have the phone perfectly flat on its back because of the rear camera placement. However, a dedicated cover with an even surface will alleviate this and you will be able to make the most of Gestures.

Bottom Line
Design / UI3
The looks of this app are simplified to a great extend so as to make it as easy to use as possible at the expense of the visual appeal. |
Function7
The feature set is pretty basic at this time, but if the gestures work just fine, it's only a matter of time until more options will be added. |
Security9
There are no problems from this perspective as Gestures is well-behaved and only gathers usage statistics regarding the app itself. |
Battery9
Friendly with the system resources and light on battery usage, the application needs only a very small amount of energy while running. |
Price10
Everything about this utility is free and users can enjoy it onto their handsets without having to pay anything. |
Compatibility8
Tailored to be used on Windows Phone 8 and above devices, Gestures doesn't have any special requirements, but its usability depends on the handset it is installed on. |
