NPR One 1.4.2.1

Listen to a stream of public radio news and stories, filtered by topics that interest you the most
Some people like to read news articles and daily reports on various topics, while others multitask and prefer to listen to the radio while performing other activities.

NPR One is one of such radios, it's the official application of the National Public Radio, a media organization that serves as a national syndicator to a network of 900 public radio stations in the United States. The app is a nice way to stay on top of the news, even on the go.

Truly sleek and clean interface with plenty of features at hand

The app launches with a tutorial in the form of an audio track, presenting all the neat features inside the app and all the tools that you can use to personalize the app.

It needs online registration, users must sign in with their Facebook or Google+ accounts or use an email address. This is needed for the app to provide you with a suggestions of topics and articles that might interest you based on the ones that you favorite and rate as interesting reports. You can also pick stations from a long list provided by the app.

Listen to all sort of reports and news

The app comes with a side menu that offers users access to all sections of the app, including the one with suggestions. They're displayed in a list of reports, but they don't contain pictures which isn't surprising considering that the app streams radio news.

It displays topis, the date on which it was posted and the duration. You can add any report to your playlist and listen to them without having to skip to the next track. Moreover, the app records your listening history and the ones that come up.

Controls in lock screen and notification bar

The app also lets you search for tracks by typing in keywords or share articles with friends on social networks. Moreover, the app comes with controls in the lock screen and notification bar letting you manage the stream of tracks without opening the app and while working on something else on your phone.

But NPR One app doesn't have a settings menu, meaning it won't alert users of breaking news and doesn't provide a link to the written version, so users could check them out and get more information. In addition, the app would need a car mode so that the app could be used even when you're driving.

It works just fine but it could use some links to articles and some more features, including a car mode.

It needs online registration but it shouldn't really pose any privacy issues.

Consumption is quite high even for a radio app, you shouldn't definitely keep your phone plugged in when using NPR One.

Compatibility8

It requires devices running Android version 4.0 or later to work, making it accessible to many users.
