For those who keep their Windows Phone at hand most of the time, a tool like Universal Unit Conversion could prove its usefulness quite rapidly, as it packs a set of relatively common measurement units and allows users to carry out conversions in no time.
Plain front-end, with a practical design
The simple GUI of this application is built for ease of access, as it offers inside the main screen all the categories of measurement units it supports, so you can start the conversions on the spot.
The tiles corresponding to the respective categories are pretty well designed, with crisp graphics, but there is a problem with the landscape orientation because the images are distorted and stretched, becoming less pleasing to the eye.
The background is completely white and the units can be easily selected form the drop-down menu shown next to the field where you have to enter the values to be converted.
Unfortunately, there is another problem here, as in the case of some categories, these units are not selectable because of a bug that prevents the menus to appear correctly.
Choose the units and carry out conversions on the fly
Universal Unit Converter is very easy to operate, since all you have to do is pick the category then the measurement unit you want to convert from and then input the value to be processed. The results are displayed as you type, so the waiting time is virtually nonexistent.
This application covers the basic measurement units that are used most often, so you will be able to make length, force, area, speed, mass, frequency, volume, angle, pressure, power, temperature and storage conversions.
The units included for each of these categories are the most commonly used Imperial and Metric measurements, so the total number of conversions this app can carry out is pretty decent.
Make multiple conversions in one go
The utility has the advantage of being ready to show for any amount you input the equivalents in all the measurement units that are part of the category you selected.
This means that you can view at a glance all the values for the items included in that category, without having to pick each unit at a time and make the transformation.
A disadvantage of Universal Unit Converter is that it doesn't allow you to save, store or share the results, nor is it able to export the data, so if you would need such functionality you will have to look for it somewhere else.
