The Sound Recorder 1.8.1803.0
For those who own a Windows Phone handset things may have just become easier thanks to a specialized utility that has a suggestive name: The Sound Recorder.
Minimalistic interface tailored for quick usage
The looks of this application are extremely plain and there are no eye-candy elements inside the almost empty GUI that hosts a few buttons and the main menu, where all the goodies are hiding.
The operation is simple and the transitions among the various areas of the utility are fluent and without any visible delays or some other kind of glitches.
There is, nonetheless, a quite noticeable drawback, namely the presence of some flashing ad banners that will follow you around in every section of the app.
One tap audio capture and simple recording controls
The Sound Recorder is very easy to work with, as you will immediately notice when opening it for the first time. The large button for starting and stopping the recording is right in the middle of the main screen, while the pause function is accessible from the main menu in the lower side.
There are two extra commands at hand, one for activating the "Skip silence" feature, while the other is the switch that controls the recording mode, enabling you to choose either mono or stereo.
Management features for audio files
As soon as a recording is complete, you can view its details and use it as you see fit by visiting the "History files" area of the app. The full information can be accessed by tapping the small info button assigned to each entry.
From that section you will have the possibility to move any selected items to the media library on your phone, copy the sound files to a different location (SD card supported), rename or delete them.
Convert and share recordings on the fly
The Sound Recorder comes with a neat feature that enables you to transform the audio files from WAV to M4A format, with the high, medium or low sound quality, depending on your selection.
Distributing the sounds can be done with a couple of taps, as this app supports uploading the content to OneDrive and also attaching the files to an email message ready to be sent.

Bottom Line
Design / UI4
The unappealing appearance of the utility makes it lose some points form the visual perspective, as practicality seems to prevail. |
Function10
Very well equipped for the purpose it was made for, The Sound Recorder offers a wide range of features that go well beyond simple audio capture tasks. |
Security7
Besides the system areas that are related to its functionality, the app requires access to some that have nothing to do with its features. |
Battery6
The power consumption for this app is considerable and the battery usage remains at high levels even when the tool runs in the background. |
Price10
In spite of the adverts and other minor disadvantages, this application is a must-have for anyone who wants to capture, save, convert and share audio recordings. |
Compatibility8
The Sound Recorder is ready to run on the more modern handsets as it requires Windows Phone 8 and above to work well. |
